Welcome to the world of journalism. You're a talented new reporter beginning a job at the Tabloid. You really need a big break, and someone has given you a suggestion. You are going to get the personal details of prominent figures in the 1920's. In this Web Quest you'll be asked to answer questions about people who influenced the culture of the Roaring 20's. As a culminating activity, you will be asked to fill out an interview page about the person of your choice and create a Venn diagram comparing two famous people.

What You'll Need To Complete This Project . . .

  1. Access to the Internet.

    2. Sites you'll need to go to: The 1920s

  2. Interview page/Worksheet.
  3. Pencil or pen to take notes.
  4. Blank Paper for Venn Diagram

Procedure: These questions are divided into six parts; Politicians, Industry, Gangsters, Sports, Art, and Women.

Step 1: After reading the questions, go to the first site listed above.
Step 2: Click on People & Trends. You will find six boxes, labeled The Arts, News & Politics, Science & Humanities, Business & Industry, Society & Fads, and Sports. The information concerning the people in our WebQuest is found among these. You must decide which one to go to to best answer the question you are working on. Remember to use higher level thinking skills!

Step 3: After you find the appropriate information, be sure to answer the current question completely. HINT: You'll find the information on Louise Brooks in a different site. Go to the second site listed above, click on Flapper Culture & Style. You will find all the info you need there.

 Step 4: After completing all the questions, choose two people and complete a Venn Diagram, comparing and constrasting their role in the society of the 1920's. You may choose onesthat was in the questions, or you may choose other ones on your own.

Step 5: After the Venn Diagram is finished, you will need to choose another person and complete the interview sheet. It can be one of the people that you used for the Venn Diagram.

By completing this WebQuest, you will have learned about the people of the 1920's and why they were important in their decade. It will give you a better awareness of history, as well as a fun experience showing you some of the events of the Roaring 20's.
